Evan Vlachos 🇬🇷 🇦🇷
I was born in Karditsa, Greece in 1985. Curiously, it was a movie that made me decide about my career. When I was 7 years old, my parents took me to the cinema to watch Jurassic Park, and since then I knew I wanted to be a paleontologist.
I studied Geology in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece and I quickly oriented myself towards Paleontology, following a Master's and PhD in Vertebrate Paleontology. I specialize in fossil turtles, and especially those giant terrestrial species that once roamed the world, now mostly confined in isolated remote archipelagos.
In 2015 I moved to Patagonia, Argentina, to work as a CONICET postdoctoral researcher on the evolution of South American tortoises. I had the luck to join the team in the Museo Paleontológico Egidio Feruglio, in Trelew (Chubut), one of the leading paleontological institutions of the country. In November 2019 I started a position as a permanent researcher, working with the changes in the diversity and extinction events of turtles.
Always oriented towards visual communication via graphic design, I was convinced that traditional publishing has reached its limits.
